    PLANS LIST (06/2011)

All my plans are drawn on ACAD. Most all have the full set of ribs drawn out so the builder can hand-cut the ribs very accurately. Plans are $15 for double sheets. Only $10 for the single sheet plans. It is very helpful to use the item number of the plans when ordering so we can keep the orders straight.

Pat says, “I have the capacity to rescale any of these plans to a different size from the original. Such as, if you want a 60-sized Spitfire (#68) at 700 square inches, I can scale it up by a factor of 1.12 times the original, producing the desired size. Be advised that it will be obvious that the dimensional qualities of the new drawing will not be exact, such as a ½” square motor mount will be off sized. The builder will have to compensate for the differences. For anyone who is used to making models from plans and especially scratch builders, this should prove to be no problem. I charge a modest $20 fee for this re-sizing service.”

The laser is operational and I can furnish ribs, other parts for a “short kit” along with arrow shafts for jig rods and other services. A good portion of these plans are already set up to cut so I can furnish parts usually quickly. Please inform me if you have special needs for wing jigging. The jig holes are 5/16” as a standard. Wing jig components are $12 if ordered with a kit. This includes the arrow shafts, spacers, and supports. You will have to furnish a 4-foot length of 12” wide shelving board to mount the jig parts on. The shelving stock is available at Lowes or Home Depot.

The laser bed is 24” X 18” so it has a length limitation for fuselage sides. This is managed by splicing the fuselage in the middle of the wing, a technique used for years that I prefer. Generally, the price for ribs is $30 for planes over 600 squares with the smaller planes at $28. You can choose either 1/16” or 3/32” for the rib stock but due to the lightweight of our balsa, we highly recommend 3/32” for almost all larger size designs over 600 squares. All the wood I stock is contest grade balsa ( about 4-6# stock); so all parts come out very light. Specify the thickness of ribs you desire.
Be advised that I will place your order in the “Q” and will get to it when I can. I am not retired, and cut parts on a part time basis, so filling orders can sometimes take a little time. I’ll try to give you an estimate on the delivery time.

    Wing jig instructions:

Obtain a plank of 12” or 16” wide X 4 foot length of “Melamine” shelving stock and (Cool #6 or #8 X ¾” flat-top sheet metal screws to be used as a mounting surface for the wing jig. A few small clamps or wood clothespins are needed. See Lowes or Home Depot.
This wing jig parts are made of 1/8” plywood. The two pieces of each side will be glued together to form the support stanchions. Counter notches are cut in, that make the joint totally organic so figuring out which part glues to which part is mindless. Now you have two stanchion assemblies. These are attached to the shelving stock with the ¾” long sheet metal screws. The screws are positioned just beside the stanchion mounting base, so when loosened, the stanchions can be slid out from under the heads of the screws. This technique allows for safe storage of the stanchions when not in use, as they could be damaged otherwise.
Supplied are two Easton competition Series 75 20## (5/16” diameter) arrow shafts. These shafts are guaranteed straight to be no more than .003” from absolutely straight. They have a hard anodized coating and are very strong for their weight. Support in the middle will not be necessary. Included in the kit are two alignment plates which have holes at every ½” interval. When cutting the wing ribs, I space the jig holes so they will match one set of holes.
When using the jig, I cut out the wing pattern and tape it to the shelving base to be used as a guide to exactly align the ribs, spars, trailing edge and leading edge. A very small drafting triangle is handy to be sure that all parts are upright and square.
Slide all the ribs onto the jig rods and slide the alignment plates over each end. The rods will rest on the stanchions and the plates will slide up against the stanchions. At this point, clothespins, or some kind of little clamp, will be used to secure the plate to the stanchion. I find that old fashion wood clothespins are a modeler’s friend. These can found at most hardware stores, like Ace, True Value, etc.
The beauty of this building system is that the shelving stock can be moved around on the building bench, and positioned so it is easy to work on the various sections of the wing. An added benefit is that each half of the wing is built separately. This is very important when building a wing that had dihedral in it. After each half is built, they are joined with the requisite dihedral blocked into the wings. After that, the controls are installed, and the center section sheeting is applied. All builders who have used this system find it very easy to build wings in halves and join them later.
I hope you like using the wing jig and feel free to provide input and ask questions.
